ABOUT SHEDIA ASIYA NELSON

Shedia Asiya Nelson is a dynamic author, educator, and youth advocate whose work spans poetry, theatre, publishing, and empowerment. She is the author of seven poetry collections, a three-part stage play series (She Kept Her Bra On), and editor of over 20 youth-led and community-centered books—including comic anthologies and culturally relevant texts. Her latest publications include My Voice, My Power, My Future, a guided youth journal and facilitator resource, and Read to Me from A to Z, an alphabet activity book created in partnership with Urgent, Inc. Shedia’s literary journey began at 16 with her first published poem and has since included features in Voyage MIA, The International Library of Who’s Who in Poetry, and Best Poems of the 90s. Through every project, she blends art, healing, and literacy to uplift youth voices and challenge social norms.
